This year we let our elves have the holiday season off, and we put to work some of our favorite business level robotic arms. The robots perform a complex series of movements, working together to place the card in the correct spot, write an awesome message on the card, then place it to the side, ready to be mailed.

A futuristic card of this level requires a futuristic image, and what better way than to use artificial intelligence to ‘create’ our artwork. The front of the card was algorithmically produced with a deep neural network – a branch of machine learning based on a set of algorithms that attempt to model high level abstractions in data. In art, especially painting, humans have mastered the skill to create unique visual experiences through a complex interplay between the content and style of an image. There currently exists no artificial system with similar capabilities. However, artificially intelligent systems can recreate images of high perceptual quality using neural representations to separate then recombine content & style. Below we combined Wassily Kandinsky’s geometric abstraction Transverse Line with a ridiculously cute picture of tiny snowball people.
