About The Event

Welcome to LA’s 3rd Annual Rube Goldberg Machine Contest and celebration of S.T.E.A.M. – Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Math. This collision of disciplines is paving the future of innovation. Come learn, play and make a day of it at the Pier, presented by Heal The Bay and Time Warner Cable’s Connect a Million Minds initiative.

Diana Skaar – Google X

Diana is the Head of Business Innovation for Robotics at X, formerly Google[x]. Since joining Google in 2008, Diana has worked within Google Research, Machine Intelligence, Google Art Project and the Health apps ecosystem for Android.

Kristina Kipp – NASA JPL

Kristina Kipp is an aerospace systems engineer specializing in the conceptual design of space vehicles and architectures, with experience leading small- to medium-sized study teams – Holds active Secret Security Clearance (I don’t know exactly what this means but it sounds AMAZING!)

Cynthia Erenas – Robotics

Cynthia Erenas is a poster child for the growing national movement behind STEAM in public schools where these subjects too often aren’t even grasped by the teachers. She helped organize the first robotics team from Boyle Heights, the L.A. and her work led to winning the FIRST Dean’s List award for 2015.

Loretta Whitesides – Virgin Galactic

Loretta has degrees in biology from Caltech and Stanford, co-created Yuri’s Nights, has traveled 2 miles to the bottom of the ocean with director James Cameron for 3D IMAX movie Aliens of the Deep, floats weightless as crew for ZERO-G’s 727 aircraft, blogs daily about space exploration for Wired Science, leads workshops on Launching Your Career in Space for undergrads plus a million other space things.

Host: Gray Bright (Me!)

Host of The Tomorrow Show, a Late Night Talk Show focused on Science and Technology.
